Starting Something New

The end of the season is always a bittersweet time here for us. While we are sad that our fresh flowers are coming to an end, it marks the beginning of our next season at the farm. We transition from one into the next, so there’s not usually much down time in between. Once the cold weather comes and our flowers are finished, we start brainstorming how we want the next season to go. Many afternoons are spent full of dreaming and imagining how to make our farm better!

We start by harvesting whatever we can that was leftover from the field and hanging it to dry in our barn. These special flowers become Everlasting Blooms! All of the other plants are to be pulled and taken to our compost pile. Then we pull all of the weed barrier and place it in our barn to be reused next season. Once all of those steps are completed we are ready to till the ground. This creates our blank slate that we will get to use next growing season.

The next part is especially fun because we get to start planning which flowers we will grow next season. We start mapping out what the flower fields will look like for next season, dreaming of the possibilities. Amy starts ordering seeds and harvesting seeds from flowers we grew here at the farm to replant next season.

We continue to finish out our season selling our Everlasting Blooms, but even that is coming to an end very soon. It was such an amazing year here at the farm and we can’t wait to see what next season will hold for us!
